Pilot Schemes

The Minister for Children, Education, Lifelong and Skills has recently agreed to provide funding of £2m over the next three financial years (2009 – 2012) to establish the pilot projects to further develop a statutory system for ensuring all pupils with ALN have their needs met appropriately and in a timely manner.

The Welsh Assembly Government is currently seeking the participation of local authorities (LA) in the developmental pilot schemes in the following four areas:

Quality assurance of ALN provision
The aims of the pilot will be to develop a comprehensive framework for the self-evaluation, monitoring and evaluation of educational provision for children and young people with ALN, which includes the following aspects:

Formal consultation will follow the piloting process and no changes to the statutory assessment framework for SEN will take place without this formal consultation.
