Guidance for the Inclusion of Young People with Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties in Secondary School

Afasic Cymru is in the final stages of producing a Secondary School information pack. We have been supported by Afasic Scotland Director, Ann Auchterloine to produce this pack and thanks are also due to a small group of advisers, Jo Aldred, Karen Allen, Catrin Davies, Sheila Davies, Martine Dodd, Frances Elms, Bonnie Lane, Delyth Molyneaux, Gwenan Roberts, Steve Stockdale and Karen Visser for their comprehensive feedback of the pack. The pack will be piloted in selected schools in both North and South Wales and sent to every secondary school in Wales.

Wales Youth Information Pack

The pack consists of local contacts and useful information for teenagers. The booklet also contains a laminated credit card style identity card to give information about speech and language difficulties which a young person could produce if in difficulties.

Wales Primary School Information Pack

This pack should be used to raise awareness, and help to identify and support children who may have speech, language and communication difficulties.

The bilingual pack includes:

Poster and leaflet

We have numerous bilingual posters which raise awareness of speech, language and communication difficulties. All of these posters can be displayed in schools, youth clubs, leisure facilities, doctors surgeries and health centres. The posters are A4 size and are available free of charges.

Afasic Cymru glossary sheets

Glossary and information sheets

We also have various Glossary/Information Sheets available although there is a small charge for these sheets. All are listed in our publications leaflet (which, again, is available free of charge).

Volunteers please!

Volunteers to put up posters and distribute leaflets in GP surgeries and children's centres would be very much appreciated.
